In Search Of... Bus Drivers!

CVSD continues to staff up for the 2018-19 school year and is still in need of bus drivers. If you know a responsible adult who has a clean driving record and understands customer service have them get in touch! 

We are looking for both regular drivers and subs. Working hours for regular drivers are typically 6:30  - 8:30 AM and 2:00 - 4:00 PM  (additional hours for sports or field trip are also possible)

Teaching and Learning Math in CVSD

Wow, the CVSD Central Office conference room is packed this week! Educators from all of our schools are working with CVSD instructional coaches and math coordinators. These educators, most of whom are new to our district in the last year or so, are being trained in "math best practices" to support and enhance student learning. Most CVSD educators have been engaged in this work for a number of years. We are ensuring that all educators are informed about math best practices and ready to work with students, regardless of which grade span or math program used.

We appreciate the commitment and hard work of our instructional coaches and coordinators, as well as the amazing room full of dedicated professionals.

Leading the Way with Standards-Based Learning

CVSD Instructional Coaches Emily Rinkema and Stan Williams are helping to transform not only the schools in our district, but are also sharing their knowledge and expertise with the larger community. They have written a book and it has just gone to print! It will be available late September. 

The Standards-Based Classroom: Make Learning the Goal is already receiving accolades. Congratulations Emily and Stan! 

A Rockstar Among Us

Innovation Award

Congratulations are in order for CVSD educators Kathy Batty and Mary Muroski. For the second year in a row, they have been awarded the SEL Innovation Award for Teachers. The NOVO Foundation and Education First have selected their Empower Youth Leadership Project to receive $5000 to continue to build social and emotional skills of local Vermont middle schoolers

The Empower Youth Leadership Project allows local adolescents to develop social, emotional and leadership skills in a supportive, community-based setting. They bring together middle school students from Chittenden County schools for full-day conferences offered three times throughout the school year. Their collaboration with the Children's Legacy Partnership Foundation (a non-profit organization that aims to provide comprehensive education to students in Uganda) allows attendees to compare their hopes and dreams with those of Ugandan students.

From within the group of 2017 Innovation Award recipients, they were invited to join a professional learning community (PLC) that focuses on student-led practices.This small PLC is comprised of 14 educators from Alaska, Hawaii, Connecticut, Texas, New Jersey, Virginia.....and Vermont! This past May they presented their project to the national PLC in Denver. They have been invited to present again at the SEL in Action Convening in October of this year, and then again to the national PLC in May of 2019.

We are excited to kick off a new blog to help communicate the Champlain Valley School District's story. We hope to include many voices and perspectives to help our viewers develop a strong picture of the work happening in the district and in our schools, all for the benefit of our students.
